“Aw, you’re not that short.” Robin grins, glad to hear her joking tone and see how she acted. Normally he tended to avoid girls — oftentimes Batgirl would hug him so he’d flail and whack at her while yelling — but this girl didn’t seem so bad. She was different and that was something he happened to like. “But that may be because I’m shorter than most kids my own age as well.”

Normally Robin never had any time at all to speak with someone during his patrol other than Batman and Batgirl. It was nice to meet someone that seemed interesting enough to start a conversation with. In his peripheral vision he catches sight of the swings nearby, noting the empty park, and a smile forms on his face as he turns to face her. “Do you like to swing, Raven?”

“Compared to the rest of the people in the bureau- though one comes to mind specifically- I really am, though.” She insists, still joking- though Hellboy and Abe were both really, really tall so yeah. “But I don’t think it’s that bad. You can fit in some neat places- at the library there’s a little spot in the window I read in, I don’t think I’d fit otherwise.”

Not that she went anywhere else to prove this fact further of course.

Raven blinks, looking at the swings. She’d seen other kids playing on them before, on her daily trips to the library, but had never even been near them. Almost embarrassed, she reluctantly admits, “I’ve honestly never tried.”

The incredulous look that appears on Robins face is almost comical. His jaw is slackened just enough before he quickly shakes his head and reaches out to grab her hand abruptly in his own. “C’mon, there’s always a good time to try!” He gushes out, a large grin on his face, as he begins to pull her while walking backwards so he can look directly at her face. “Just climb on a swing and I’ll push you.”

In order to let him know that he was being serious and not just joking around — she seemed the shy type anyways! — he releases her and jumps onto one of the swings while rocking back and forth. “See? It’s safe. I’ll make sure I don’t push you too hard, Raven!”

With the face he pulled, Raven had to wonder if it was really that surprising, and if it was really such a big deal. Still, she lets herself be pulled over to the swings, and watches him carefully. Frankly, she didn’t see the big deal- but trying couldn’t hurt, right?

“Well… alright.” She finally said before climbing onto a swing.

For a moment she wonders if this would be safe for her powers, and if she should tell him- but other kids seemed to not talk to her after she told them, and he seemed so nice. Raven would just have to keep a very tight control, even more so than usual, wouldn’t she?

She smiles ever so slightly, if only for a brief moment.

“Personally I think it’s because I’m short.” Raven joked, holding her hands behind her back. Even for a nine year old she as a bit short, though, so it did hold some truth. “Well, thank you. I should say the same to you, really.”

Honestly, though, the statement made her a bit sad. There were not many people willing to talk to her at Azarath, after all. And she had little chance to make friends in such a large city- well. She did, knowing exactly where a group of kids played, but she was honestly a bit too scared to approach. But it made her happy all the same, the idea of someone thinking differently about her.

“I had my suspicions.” Raven tried not to giggle. She’d met another Starfire who mentioned something like that before- and then there was ice cream.

Ice cream was good.

“You did?” Starfire asked, a bit surprised Raven’s responce. “Please, where did you come from? How did you get here? What is your favorite color? Do you wish to be my friend?”

“I’m from a place called Azarath, and I came here through a portal that probably wasn’t supposed to be opened, I like shades of blue and sure.” She answered, just as quickly as Starfire had asked. Balancing on her heels, she looked up at the other, almost mischievously.

Robin is a little surprised by how she talks; however, he can’t help but also be intrigued. She seemed smart for her age and her clothing choice was a bit of a stretch — but so was his! — and he just gives her a toothy grin while nodding his head. You could never go wrong with making new friends! Especially since his only real friend was Barbara and a small handful of people from school who also thought he lived in a creepy location. Getting to make a friend as ‘Robin’, even if the girl refused, would be a great way to start his patrol.

“I don’t see how you go unnoticed, Raven.” Robin manages to pipe up as he folds his arms over his chest and tilts his head slightly at her. “You look like a swell person to me. I’m sure a lot of people would love to be your friend.”

She smiles ever so slightly, if only for a brief moment.

The girl looked up at the older teenager and stared for a moment.

“Hello.”

“Hello, small one!” Starfire greeted with a wide smile. The younger girl looked familiar. “My name is Starfire. Please, what is your name?”

“My name is Raven.” She says simply. She can’t really emote that well, and it gives her a bit of guilt. How bothersome.

Raven really hated her powers sometimes.

“Raven?” She asked. Her smile widened at the name. “It is glorious to meet you, Raven! Did you know that one of my best friend’s name is also Raven?”

“I had my suspicions.” Raven tried not to giggle. She’d met another Starfire who mentioned something like that before- and then there was ice cream.
